BAS101Engineering Physics

Engineering Physics (BAS101) builds the scientific backbone every engineering branch draws on: it moves from the breakdown of classical mechanics at high speed (special relativity) into the wave nature of light (interference, diffraction, polarization) and finishes with the physics that underpins modern photonics — lasers, holography, and fibre-optic communication. Numerical problem solving is emphasised throughout, since AKTU/university examinations weight conceptual questions and derivations equally with numericals.

  • Why it matters: relativity underlies GPS timing corrections; interference/diffraction explain antireflection coatings, spectrometers and diffraction-limited optics; lasers and fibre optics are the backbone of telecom, sensing and manufacturing.
  • Assessment split (typical): Continuous Assessment 30, End Semester Examination 70, Total 100.
  • Study approach: master the derivations flagged in each unit below, then work through the 50-question quiz and both sample papers under timed conditions.
