Advanced Electricity & Magnetism Learning Lab

Welcome to the User Guide for the Advanced Electricity & Magnetism Learning Lab, a companion virtual laboratory covering Electrostatics, Magnetostatics, Electrodynamics, Electromagnetic Waves & their propagation in different media, and the electric & magnetic properties of materials, at the undergraduate and postgraduate level.

Try it live

Every experiment and workshop below has a matching interactive panel in the simulator: 🔬 Launch the Simulator

This guide provides, for each of the 18 experiments: the theoretical background, governing formula, apparatus schematic, a step-by-step procedure, a blank observation table and graph grid for your own readings, a maximum permissible error calculator, precautions, and viva-voce questions — followed by 7 hands-on industrial workshops that let you apply the same physics to realistic engineering scenarios, each scored against an optimal target with a printable completion certificate at 100%.

Topics Covered

Module Experiments
Electrostatics Coulomb's Law · Electric Dipole Field & Potential · Gauss's Law · Parallel-Plate Capacitor & Dielectrics · Conductors & the Van de Graaff Generator

How to Use This Guide

Each experiment page follows the same structure: Aim → Theoretical Background → Governing Formula → Interactive Controls → Procedure → Observation Table → Graph → Calculations → Result → Precautions → Maximum Permissible Error → Viva-Voce Questions. Work through the simulator panel alongside the page, fill in your own observation tables and graphs (the graph grids accept a pasted photo of any physical meter/CRO trace for tracing, exactly as in the Advanced Laser & Optics Learning Lab).
